The following list provides a brief description of a few of the projects we have been involved with.  This list only highlights a few of the over 180 project developments undertaken by DAA.

  • Design of a low power optical repeater module for Scientific Applications International Corporation (SAIC).  This module uses single mode 1550nm DFB laser and InGaAs PIN photodetector for long haul OC-3 (155.52 Mbps) ATM/SONET transmission system.  Design also uses Philips low power PLD, PECL logic.
     
  • Design of a video delay card for virtual studio environment.  This card delays camera video by a user programmable number of frames to match the delay through a camera tracking image generator pipeline.  Supports serial digital CCIR601 (270 Mbps) video and analog composite RGB video.  Also capable of transcoding analog RGB to serial digital CCIR601.  Uses Altera FPGAs, PLL circuits, Motorola microcontroller, DRAM frame buffer, A/D and D/A converters.
     
  • Design of a custom infrared radar video data recorder.  This design for the Navy received a custom analog video signal, digitized the video and recorded digitized video stream to SCSI hard disk via PCI interface.
     
  • Design of Mesh Interface board for Pyramid Technology.  This board provides an interface between  Pyramid Technology and Siemens Nixdorf symmetric multi-processing machines.  Xilinx FPGA's and custom ASIC used.
     
  • Design and manufacturing of video accelerator card for desktop video editing applications.  Use of Altera FPGAs and TI 3208x DSP.
     
  • Research and product development for Scalable Coherent Interface (SCI) and ATM technologies for 622.08 Mb/s and 2.4 Gb/s applications.  Includes the development of an ATM over SONET/SDH line interface module OC-12c and a i960Hx microprocessor module.
     
  • Research, design, development and testing of high speed fiber optic technologies for SONET/SDH applications.  Design of optical  transmitter/receiver pair compliant with ITU-T SONET and Bellcore standards for OC-12 (622.08 Mb/s) long haul telecommunication applications over -40EC to +85EC temperature range.  Control of DFB lasers, Fabry Perot lasers, Avalanche Photo diodes and PIN diodes.
     
  • Design and prototype manufacturing and test of 9U VME Frame Buffer Board for the Dynatech Video Group Delta Character Generator System.  Altera FPGA's used.  Hardware and Software development.  Production Transfer to Dynatech.
     
  • Design of video caller ID product  to overlay telephone caller ID information on video.
     
  • Design and development of a proprietary cache-coherent (MESI) multi-processing bus specification.  Design of 2 digital ASICs (50,000+ gates, NEC CMOS 0.6 micron) used to interface to customer proprietary 50MHz multi-processing bus (Siemens SPbus).  These ASICs are used on all boards that communicate over the SPbus.  Designed first, second and third generation chips.  Responsible for design, simulation, test vectors, sign-off.  Also designed 486 and Pentium based CPU modules for UNIX (SINIX) based multi-processing computer system. 
     
  • ISA based Record and Playback cards to record and playback compressed digitized video to/from SCSI hard drives.  Fiber optic and ECL interface for clock recovery/phase-locked loop.  Embedded firmware in C and assembly for onboard 68HC11 microprocessor.  Hardware and software solutions for MPEG and VQ video systems (compression & decompression) for Scientific-Atlanta.
     
  • Design and development for Phillips MRI systems. Developed Alpha/VMS device drivers in VAX MACRO to manage a TURBOchannel to Q-Bus adapter and run an HDLC link over the modem port.  Ported VAX/VMS device drivers for Phillips' proprietary Q-bus interfaces to Alpha/VMS.
     
  • Designed National 32532 based CPU module, Intel 486 based CPU Module, Parity Memory Module, EDC Memory Module for Siemens Multibus I UNIX (SINIX) computer systems.  Hardware and software development.  Design and development taken to pre-production stage.  High volume manufacturing performed by Siemens.
     
  • Designed and tested interface between Digital's proprietary backplane in VAXstation 3520/3540 workstations and the VMEbus variant used in the MasPar massively parallel supercomputer.
     
  • Design, test and manufacturing of a 4-channel IEEE-488 and RS-232 interface card for Digital's BI VAX.
     
  • Developed complex radar simulator for use in HARM missile simulation facility for Naval Weapons Center.  The system used two full 19-inch electronic racks and was controlled by a VAX computer.  the simulator was capable of simulating up to 512 radar emitters simultaneously.  Extensive hardware and software design.
     
  • TURBOchannel product line development for in-house product line includes:
         TC-100: Parallel printer port for TURBOchannel
         TC-200: IEEE-488 (GPIB) interface for TURBOchannel
         TC-300: TURBOchannel to VME bus bridge
         TC-400: 8-port serial mux, no modem control for TURBOchannel
         TC-410: 2-port serial mux with modem control for TURBOchannel
         TC-420: 8-port serial mux with modem control for TURBOchannel
         TC-500: MIL-STD 1553 interface for TURBOchannel
         TC-600: TURBOchannel Real-Time Clock module
         TC-700: Dual-ported memory interface for telemetry interface to TURBOchannel
         TC-900: TURBOchannel to CEPT interface
         TC-910: TURBOchannel to T1 interface
     
  • Device Drivers for Ultrix, VAX/VMS, Alpha/VMS, Alpha/OSF1 in C and assembly.  Diagnostic and self-test software.
     
  • Design, development & manufacturing of industrial process controller used to control growth process of bacteria for cheese starter by monitoring and controlling pH and temperature for multiple vats.
     
  • Designed hardware and software for a real time computer system used to support and monitor flight programs running in a ground-based avionics computer for the U.S. Navy's A6 and A7 aircraft.
     
  • Design and development of a fiber-optic based shared reflective memory system for communicating real-time data between multiple computers in NASA's Ames-Dryden Flight Research Facility.
     
  • Design of several generations of disk controllers for Digital Equipment Corporation's Qbus.  These controllers were used in Digital's micro PDP-11 computers.  The design included the development and testing of two custom gate arrays.  DAA perfected the design of a single charge pump data separator capable of both winchester and floppy data rates.  This module became one of Digital's highest revenue producing modules.
     
  • Designed and manufactured a desktop disk emulator device.  The DE-100 was designed to aid in the design and testing of both hard and floppy data separators and controllers.  This design included an STDbus Z80 CPU card and STDbus floppy controller.
     
  • Designed a SCSI to floppy controller for Digital's desktop workstations.  Developed the firmware for the embedded 8031 controller.  Fabricated several pre-production units and performed extensive soft-error measurements.
     
  • Developed a complete line of data logger modules: computer-to-network module, 2-channel 12-bit A/D data logging module, 4-channel temperature logging module, 2-channel time-of-event logging module, 2-channel frequency logging module, 2-channel soil moisture logging module.
     
  • Design, development and manufacturing of series of submersible pressure transducers for water level monitoring.  The transducers include microprocessor control and SDI-12 interface.  Design and development of H-350 pressure measurement instrument for laboratory and field use. The H-350 can be interfaced with data loggers, chart recorders, printers and telemetry systems.  Design of H-3400 & H-3410 radio telemetry network and modem telephone link for remote data collection.
     
  • Design, test and manufacturing of a series of high volume data loggers for Mil-Std-1553 for both laboratory and air-borne use.
     
  • Developed a low cost solar tracker and drive electronics for a parabolic solar energy collector.
     
  • Productized and manufactured Digital Equipment's rtVAX300 tester.  The Tester is a desktop device for evaluating and testing the rtVAX300 module.
